The Role

We are searching for a talented and experienced CS Engineer to join our growing team! You will play a critical and cross-functional role. You will be part of our Engineering team and will work closely with our Customer Success team to directly drive impact by ensuring we provide best-in-class service to our large enterprise clients.


We're looking for a Toronto-based CS Engineer that can hit the ground running in a fast paced and growing startup to add value on day 1. You will be the bridge between our Customer Success and Engineering teams. You will primarily be responsible for triaging and solving our clients’ technical problems in an efficient and effective way, and providing proactive guidance to them. You will have a big impact on SHIFT’s success by enabling us to provide white-glove service to our clients, who are generally large Fortune 500 companies.

You should be a critical and creative thinker, and have excellent communication and problem-solving skills. You should want to solve difficult problems on a daily basis with our Customer Success team and/or directly with our clients. You should have an ownership mindset and be a self-starter, always striving to take ownership of the ‘full problem’ to deliver the highest-quality solution for our clients. You should believe in learning new things everyday, and have a strong desire to grow professionally. You should also be passionate about what we’re doing at SHIFT!

Lastly, it is important that you are excited about working with a predominantly remote Engineering team (one of our Engineering Leads and our full Business team is located in Toronto, but the rest of the Engineering team is remote).

You can expect to tackle the following challenges:

  • Respond to technical problems in collaboration with other engineers on the team

  • Perform code reviews in conjunction with other developers

  • Develop new front-end product features, with a focus on creating a seamless user experience with our tools

  • Work on High Value, Rapid Development, projects that assist various teams within SHIFT

We’re looking for you to have the following qualifications:

  • A minimum of 2 years experience in an engineering role (for example, as a Customer Success Engineer, QA Engineer, Support Engineer, Front-end developer)

  • Full stack engineering experience is preferred but not necessary
    We would also be interested in someone with front-end experience who is eager to hone their back-end skills

  • Experience building web applications, preferably within an enterprise context

  • You write understandable, testable code with an eye towards maintainability

  • You are a strong communicator - explaining complex technical concepts to designers, support, and other engineers is no problem for you

  • A creative thinker with strong problem-solving abilities

  • It would be great if you had experience at a startup and/or with a remote engineering team (but it’s not necessary)

  • You MUST be located in Toronto (this is not a remote role)
